At Mission Action, volunteering is more than giving your time — it’s about showing up for justice, community, and collective care. When you volunteer, you’re joining a growing movement rooted in love, dignity, and solidarity. Whether you’re distributing meals, supporting immigrant families, or simply lending a hand with compassion, when you volunteer at Mission Action, you are helping shape the world we all deserve.

Your time matters. Your presence matters. Every act of service brings us one step closer to equity and belonging for all.

Strengthen Community

At Mission Action, we strive to create meaningful experiences where every individual can contribute directly to our services while connecting with guests in authentic ways. Volunteering with us goes beyond giving time—it’s about building community, sharing compassion, and being part of lasting change.

Be part of a welcoming space where community members find nourishment and dignity. Volunteers help serve meals and connect with guests at our Dolores Shelter.

Join us in preparing fresh, culturally relevant groceries for our LGBTQ+ community members. Arcoíris Market is all about love, pride, and care through food.

Support El Mercadito, our outdoor market-style food distribution. Volunteers pack and share groceries with families and neighbors every week.

At Mission Action, we believe in the strength of collective care. Whether you’re a workplace, school, or community group, volunteering together is a meaningful way to build connection while showing up for immigrant families, transitional-age youth, and individuals experiencing housing insecurity. We offer flexible, purpose-driven opportunities for teams to engage both on-site and off-site. Some of the ways your group can get involved include:

  • Kit Building: Assemble 100+ hygiene or menstrual kits as a team-building activity to support clients in our shelters.
  • Letters of Love: Decorate and write welcome cards for families in our Stay Over Program using provided templates and materials.
  • Happy Hour for a Cause: Host a social event or donation drive to raise awareness and funds for Mission Action’s programs.
  • Know Us & Know Your Rights: Bring your team together for a one-hour in-person or virtual “Lunch & Learn” about immigrant rights and Mission Action’s impact.
  • Mercadito & Arcoíris Food Market: Volunteer on Wednesdays to help set up and distribute culturally relevant groceries to our community.
  • Corporate Team Tours: Experience our work firsthand through a guided tour of our programs, including our shelter, food markets, and Cohen Residence.
